Tennessee has long been a hotbed of sports, and it’s a world that seems to be in constant change over the past several years. From new payment and transfer options for students on the college level, the looming threat of realignment, new television contracts, and the massive money that comes with them. There are a lot of things changing right now. A Tennessee Tech professor has made it a part of his research to understand the history of sport, and why it grabs so many of us in such an important way. We continue our conversation today with Tennessee Tech professor Dr. Arthur Banton.

University of Memphis’s Dr. James Whelan discusses the rise in gambling issues.

If you’ve watched sports on television in the last year, you understand the influence of sports betting on our society. As more and more states legalize sports gambling, you’re seeing it in your face more and more. Take, for example, the recent March Madness games. Dr. James Whelan is a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis. Memphis has established a gambling clinic ahead of what is becoming more and more an issue in the US.
