“Get the young people graduated with English, math, social studies, and science.” That may be the old perception of what we thought it meant to leave high school, but today, things are changing. A greater emphasis by educators at all levels to make sure students are coming out of high school with a career path. It doesn’t have to be the final one, but some ideas on where they would like to go moving forward. College isn’t for everyone – a career is. Two parts of that equation – Vol State and TCAT. Dr. Myra West, and Dr. Daniel Marvin explore their part of workforce readiness.

Today In The Upper Cumberland: Stroke Support

Carol Lynam & Virginia Ely discuss support options for those impacted by strokes

A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot, or bursts. If the blood flow can’t reach the region of the brain that controls a particular body function, then that part of the body will not work as it should. That’s where Carol Lynam and Virginia Ely enter the picture. These two work with victims in recovery, and most people do recover from strokes. They also formed a series of support groups to help those impacted by stokes – both individuals, and their families.

Parks and recreation opportunities in Putnam County include the expansion of the soccer complex near Cookeville High, the extension of the rail trail to Monterey, and the creation of Bee Rock and the Meadow Creek Park on the mountain. We continue our series on parks and recreation growth across the Upper Cumberland with John Ross Albertson, he directs Putnam County’s Parks & Recreation Department. Rafferty Cleary serves as Monterey’s Cultural Administrator.
