The builders are busy….trying to meet the growing need of home buyers across our region. We examine the state of purchasing a home….and how renting remains a course of action for many….but maybe not for the reason you think.

The eclipse happening on Monday. And if you’re hoping to take some pictures of it, here’s a quick guide on how to do it with your phone . . .
1. Use a solar filter. To take pictures during the eclipse, you need to cover your phone’s lens with either a solar filter or your eclipse glasses. Regular sunglasses will NOT work. And only take the filter off if you’re lucky enough to be in the path of totality, when the sun is completely covered.
2. Use a tripod to keep your phone stable. To minimize any small movements made by your hands.
3. Take pictures of stuff around you. If you don’t have a solar filter, eclipse glasses, or a tripod, take pictures of the stuff going on around you during the eclipse . . . like pets, and other people looking up at the sky.
4. Practice this weekend. Practice by taking photos just after sunset to get an idea of what the light levels will be like during the eclipse.
5. Keep your expectations in check. Let’s be real . . . cameras on phones were meant for selfies and other quick shots. So don’t expect AMAZING eclipse photos from your smartphone.
This week’s rhetoric between the United States and North Korea reminds us that the Communist Regime remains one of the outliers in World geopolitics.
Since an early age, one local man has been interested in just that kind of politics. In fact, part of his military career included time along the North Korea South Korea border. Bryan Payne grew up in Cookeville, graduated from college at the University of Virginia and pursued a career in the US Army. He later worked at the State Department.
Today, in his addition to his work at Industry Mart, Payne remains a member of the US Army….in the reserve counter terrorism unit.

Downtown revitalization. In many areas of the United States…it’s an issue that communities are trying to find answers to downtowns that are boarded up….with few tenants…areas where crime and poverty reign.
However…downtowns across the Upper Cumberland….are just the opposite. They are places of historic value….of current viability….and with plans for the future. One of those downtowns, is McMinnville.
Main Street McMinnville….is led by Katie Kemezis, and the mayor of McMinnville… Jimmy Haley.

There are very few things in life that are as satisfying as nailing someone with a perfect insult.
There’s a discussion on Reddit right now where people are sharing their BEST insult . . . and just to make things more artistic and less crude, they’re only sharing ones that don’t include profanity.
Here are some of our favorites . . .
1. “I don’t know why you’re playing hard-to-get when you’re so hard to want.”
2. “You’re the human equivalent of a participation award.”
3. “Your grades say ‘marry rich’, but your face says ‘study harder.'”
4. “You’re impossible to underestimate.”
5. “I would’ve been your dad, but your mom didn’t have change for a $5.”
6. “Whoever told you to be yourself couldn’t have given you worse advice.”
7. “That’s why everybody talks about you behind your back.”
8. “You aren’t being the person Mr. Rogers wanted you to be.”
When you think of oil and gas production in the United States…you think of Texas first. Maybe Alaska next…California? Sure. Those three states account for the biggest percentage of oil production….some 930 million barrels annually. Oil in Tennessee? Yes. And more than you think. And the area of interest…well right under your feet.
We explore oil and gas production with Dr. Jeannette Wolak…she is an assistant professor in the Earth Sciences Department at Tennessee Tech.
