The surviving members of TLC are going into the studio to record one final album, and they wanted to “involve the fans” . . . so they’re asking you to pay for it. They’ve even set up a Kickstarter page to make it easy for us!
So that got us thinking.. What 90’s country act would you want to see make a comeback? Here are some suggestions:
1. Wade Hays: In 1994, he made his debut that year with his gold-certified album Old Enough to Know Better. Its title track, which served as his debut single, reached Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts, and three more singles from it all reached Top Ten as well.
2. Tracy Lawrence: Lawerence signed to Atlantic Records in 1991, Lawrence debuted that year with the album Sticks and Stones, which produced his first chart single and first Number One hit in its title track. Five more studio albums, as well as a live album and a compilation album, followed throughout the 1990s and into 2000 on Atlantic before the label’s country division was closed in 2001. Afterward, he recorded for Warner Bros. Records,DreamWorks Records, Mercury Records Nashville and his own label, Rocky Comfort Records.
Lawrence has released nine studio albums, three compilations, a live album, and a Christmas album. His studio albums have accounted for more than thirty singles on the Billboard country music charts. Of these, eight have reached number one: “Sticks and Stones” (1991), “Alibis”, “Can’t Break It to My Heart”, “My Second Home” (all 1993), “If the Good Die Young” (1994), “Texas Tornado” (1995), “Time Marches On” (1996) and “Find Out Who Your Friends Are” (2007).
3. Tracy Byrd: In 1993, Byrd broke through on the country music scene that year with his single “Holdin’ Heaven”, which reached Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Although he did not land a second Number One until 2002’s “Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo”, Byrd has charted more than thirty hit singles in his career, including eleven additional Top Ten hits. He has also released nine studio albums and two greatest-hits albums, with four gold certifications and one double-platinum certification from the RIAA.
4. Little Texas: Signed to Warner Bros. Records in 1991, Little Texas released its debut album First Time For Everything that year. The album’s lead off single, “Some Guys Have All the Love”, reached a peak of No. 8 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Little Texas continued to produce hit singles throughout the mid-1990s, including the Number One single “My Love” and six more top ten hits. Their debut album earned a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), while 1993’s Big Time was certified double platinum and 1994’s Kick a Little was certified platinum.
5. Clay Walker: He made his debut in 1993 with the single “What’s It to You”, which reached Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) chart, as did its follow-up, 1994’s “Live Until I Die”. Both singles were included on his self-titled debut album, released in 1993 viaGiant Records. He stayed with the label until its 2001 closure.
