Two Strangers Shoveled Snow So an 82-Year-Old Could Bring Flowers to His Wife’s Memorial

82-year-old Bud Caldwell of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin lost his wife Betty two years ago, after 56 years together.  So he bought a bench at a local park, dedicated it in her memory, and visits it EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Each day, he brings her a daisy and a penny . . . which have to do with two of their favorite songs, “Pennies from Heaven” and“Daisy a Day”.

But after it snowed a few weeks ago, he couldn’t get to the bench.  Because either last year or the year before, he tried walking through the snow and fell.  And he didn’t want to risk it again, so he decided to sit in his car, and talk to her from there.

That’s when two park employees named Jerrod Ebert and Kevin Schultz found out about it . . . and started shoveling a PATH from his car the entire way to the bench.

Jerrod and Kevin say they both just knew they had to help Bud out.  And they told him they’ll make sure the path stays shoveled the rest of the winter.

Brantley Gilbert’s “One Hell Of An Amen” Inspired By Real People

Brantley Gilberts’s song “One Hell of an Amen” was inspired by a couple of real-life guys.  One was his buddy Kory who faced up to his fatal Leukemia diagnosis by telling the doctor to, quote, “Bring it on!”

The other was a soldier named Jon who gave his life for our country.  Brantley explains, quote, “One of my friends went to Iraq on several tours.  He had a best friend over there who passed away just a couple feet from where he was positioned.

“When he told me the story it made me feel like I was right there with him.  The way he told me the story . . . it punched me in the chest.”

Even though both stories are sad, Brantley says the song is, quote, “about the good fight.  It’s about the attitude, the strength and the courage those boys had for what they were going through.  Kory battling Leukemia and Jon fighting in Iraq.

“It’s about two different wars.  Anytime you go out fighting for your life or fighting for your country, that’s ‘One Hell of an Amen’.”

Toilet Paper Size Is Shrinking

If it feels as if you’re running through toilet paper rolls faster than ever before, that’s because you are. Toilet paper rolls have MrWhipplebeen shrinking. Toilet paper squares, the individual sheets that connect to make each roll, were once 4.5 inches wide and the same long. That standard, however, has shifted, to a point where companies are selling sheets that are half an inch shorter, or thinner, or both. A reader wrote in to a columnist at the Los Angeles Times saying he’s noticed a roughly 26 per cent reduction in the surface area of his toilet paper. “The old standard for a single sheet of tissue was four and a half inches by four and a half inches, a nice square,” he said. “Some tissue companies have changed the length of the sheet to four inches, with a width of four and a half inches – no longer a square.” Others, including Consumer Reports, have noticed the trend, too. The consumer advocacy group said that rolls are becoming “narrower,” cardboard tubes are getting bigger, and sheets are shrinking in both size and number. At least Mr. Whipple isn’t around to see this.
