Marking 10 years of the Black Lives Matter movement

Black Lives Matter is renewing its calls to defund the police as the organization marks a major milestone. Activists founded the global movement 10 years ago this week after the acquittal of the man who fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. DeRay Mckesson joined CBS News to talk about the movement. Mckesson is the co-founder and executive director of Campaign Zero, an organization that advances efforts supporting communities to redefine public safety in ways not involving police. Source

Amateur Florida hunters capture longest python ever recorded

You’re looking at footage of the longest Burmese python ever recorded. Amateur hunters captured the snake in Naples, Florida. The Southwest Florida Conservancy says the python is a record 19 feet long and weighs 125 pounds. That’s roughly the average height of an adult giraffe. Source

Biden administration takes steps to forgive billions in student loans

The Biden administration is taking steps to forgive billions in student loan debt. It’s doing so by making fixes to some repayment plans. The move will automatically forgive $39 billion of educational debt. This comes after the Supreme Court struck down another student debt forgiveness plan just weeks ago. SAG actress on strike: It’s painful, but “we’re in it for the long haul”

The leaders of the SAG-AFTRA actors union announced Thursday they are joining the writers of the WGA on the picket lines, the first time since 1960 that actors and screenwriters have been on strike at the same time.
