Flurry of sexual assault lawsuits filed before temporary New York law expires

A wave of lawsuits alleging sexual assault were filed in New York this week against prominent figures, including former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs and actor Jamie Foxx. The lawsuits came before Thursday’s expiration of the temporary Adult Survivors Act, which created a one-year window for adults to file lawsuits against alleged abusers regardless of the statute of limitations. Former Olympian Oscar Pistorius granted parole

Former Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius, who was convicted in South Africa of murder in the 2013 shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, has been granted parole after serving more than 10 years in prison. Source

Two dozen hostages released as Gaza cease-fire underway

Thirteen Israelis, 10 Thai nationals and a Filipino citizen who were taken hostage by Hamas militants on Oct. 7 were released Friday as part of a temporary cease-fire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas this week. Israel subsequently released 39 Palestinian women and children it was holding in its jails. Lilia Luciano has more. Source
