NASA legends remember the nerve-wracking moments before moon landing

Fifty years ago Tuesday, Apollo 11 blasted off from Earth for its historic mission to the moon. Charlie Duke was the voice on the radio talking to the astronauts, as flight director Gene Kranz led mission control during the lunar landing. Above the moon, Michael Collins piloted the Apollo 11 command module while his fellow astronauts walked the moon’s surface. Mark Strassmann spoke with all three men. Source

Puerto Rico governor rejects calls to resign over profane and derogatory group chat

Puerto Rico’s governor faces new calls to resign over leaked conversations that reveal his role in a profane, sexist and homophobic group chat. The island has struggled to recover from Hurricane Maria in 2017 and Gov. Ricardo Rosselló’s administration has been plagued by scandals involving funding. Two top officials stepped down this weekend after the leaked group chat. It showed Rosselló and his allies discussing confidential government information and disparaging officials, politicians and journalists. David Begnaud reports. Source

Body of beloved civil rights leader found in trunk of car

Louisiana police are investigating the mysterious death of a beloved civil rights activist in Baton Rouge’s African American community. The body of 75-year-old Sadie Roberts-Joseph was found in the trunk of a car on Friday, not far from the history museum she founded almost two decades ago. Jericka Duncan reports. Source

Norah O’Donnell on the Apollo 11 anniversary and her “CBS Evening News” debut

This week, we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 and its monumental achievement of landing a man on the moon in 1969. “CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell spoke with some of the pioneering women involved in the Apollo 11 mission 50 years ago, at a time when the space program was dominated by men. Massive Manhattan power outage was not an attack, officials say

The federal government could join the investigation into what caused a massive power outage in New York City. More than 70,000 customers across Midtown Manhattan lost power on Saturday.
