French President Emmanuel Macron wants the wildfires in the Amazon rainforest to be on the agenda at this weekend’s G-7 summit. In Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro has authorized the military to join the fight, and forces will begin deploying on Saturday. Deforestation has increased since Bolsonaro took office last year, and he previously described the rainforest protection as an obstacle to his country’s economic development. Naturalist Paul Rosalie wrote about his experiences in the jungle in his 2014 book, “Mother of God.” Rosalie joins “CBS This Morning Saturday” to talk about the fires. Source

Health officials probing 193 cases of severe lung illness associated with vaping

The vaping epidemic may have taken a deadly turn: Illinois is reporting the first possible death in the United States linked to e-cigarette smoking. The death comes as federal health officials are investigating nearly 200 cases of severe lung illnesses among vapers in 22 states – all of which have been reported since June 28. Anna Werner reports. Brazilian forces will deploy to fight Amazon fires

World leaders at the G-7 summit could be ready to declare the raging wildfires burning in the Amazon rainforest an international crisis. After dragging his feet for a few days, Brazil’s president appears to be responding to the worldwide uproar by adding more boots to the firefight. Brazilian forces will deploy starting Saturday to border areas, indigenous territories and other affected regions. Brazil contains about 60% of the Amazon rainforest. The forest not only produces one-fifth of the planet’s oxygen, but is also considered crucial in the effort to contain global warming. Kenneth Craig reports. Source

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg completes radiation therapy for pancreatic tumor, court says

The Supreme Court said Friday that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg had just completed three weeks of radiation therapy for a cancerous tumor. The tumor was detected on Justice Ginsburg’s pancreas during a routine blood test, and a biopsy at the end of July confirmed a localized malignant tumor. The Supreme Court said that after a three-week course of radiation therapy at a New York hospital, “the Justice tolerated treatment well,” and “no further treatment is needed at this time.” Ed O’Keefe reports. Trump arrives in France for G-7 summit after escalating tensions with China

President Trump is in France for the G-7 summit, a meeting with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom. His arrival comes after China announced retaliatory tariffs on billions of dollars of U.S. goods, and the Dow dropped more than 600 points. President Trump fired back on Twitter by increasing tariffs already placed on China, and tariffs scheduled to be imposed on September 1. Paula Reid reports. Source
