On Friday, the Justice Department announced the release of more than 3,000 federal inmates as a result of the First Step Act, a bipartisan criminal justice reform bill President Trump signed into law last December. President Trump is personally advocating for an American rapper facing legal trouble in Sweden. But Sweden’s prime minister says the president cannot influence how A$AP Rocky is treated in an assault case. Video captured the rapper in a fight in Stockholm last month, and he was taken into custody days later. Mola Lenghi reports. Source

R. Kelly’s crisis manager: “I would not leave my daughter” with an accused pedophile

R&B singer R. Kelly will appear in federal court in Brooklyn court next month to face new sex crime charges. Federal prosecutors in Illinois and New York have charged the musician with a combined 18 counts including child pornography. Kelly is accused of sexually exploiting women and girls over more than two decades. He has denied all allegations. Kelly is being held in a Chicago jail without bond. His crisis manager, Darrell Johnson, joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss Kelly’s mental state and whether or not he believes he will be acquitted. Source

Cutting just 300 calories per day could make you a lot healthier

A new study finds that cutting just 300 calories per day could have a huge impact on your overall health. Researchers followed groups for two years and told them they could eat whatever they wanted to, but they had to restrict calories. On average, the group cut 300 calories. That’s the equivalent of about two chocolate chip cookies or about a cup of ice cream. Samantha Heller, a registered dietitian, joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss the benefits of cutting calories. Severe weather brings cooler temperatures and flash flooding

At least two deaths are being blamed on a brutal heat that stifled much of the country. More than a half dozen record-high temperatures were broken or tied in the eastern U.S. on Saturday and Sunday.
