Turkey launches airstrikes on Syria after Trump pulls back U.S. troops

Turkish forces are bombarding territory held by America’s Kurdish allies in Northern Syria. On Wednesday President Trump called the Turkish offensive “a bad idea,” but it comes just days after his administration pulled back U.S. troops from the border, exposing the Kurds, who have led the fight against ISIS. Trump defends troop pullback in northern Syria

After Turkish forces launched airstrikes on Kurdish fighters in northeast Syria, President Trump said the U.S. was “speaking to both sides and seeing what can be made of it.” He acknowledged that ISIS fighters in the area could be “escaping to Europe,” but he went on to complain that the U.S. was providing security that he said was the responsibility of Europe as well as Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
