Operation against Soleimani was set in motion before embassy attack

According to officials, the attack on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad this week, while highly visible, was not what instigated the plan to kill Qassem Soleimani, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports. The operation against him was set in motion after an American defense contractor was killed last week in Kirkuk in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base, Martin reported. Source

Chuck Schumer calls for witnesses and documents in Senate impeachment trial

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, in a speech on the Senate floor Friday, called on Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to allow the introduction of witnesses and documents in the impeachment trial of President Trump. He accused McConnell of using “finger-pointing and name-calling” to avoid answering questions about whether witnesses should be called. McConnell, who spoke on the floor before Schumer, said he’d prefer not to vote on calling witnesses until after the trial is underway. Source
