Black cheerleader kicked off team because of her hair, mom says

A black mom says her daughter was not allowed to compete with her Colorado cheerleading squad because of her hair. Tiyana Young says her 11-year-old daughter Niemah was kicked off the team because her coach refused to let her perform with natural hair. But the cheer coach says Niemah was dismissed because her mom threatened the team. Vladimir Duthiers reports. Source

Stone Age chewing gum gives insights into life of young girl

An ancient form of chewing gum is providing new insights into the life of a young girl from the Stone Age. Scientists analyzed genetic material found on a 5,700-year-old piece of heated birch bark in Denmark. The girl had chewed on it before spitting it out. Her DNA was so well preserved, scientists determined she had blue eyes and dark brown hair. They could also tell her most recent meal included duck and hazelnuts. Source

Grandfather offered plea deal in girl’s cruise ship death

An attorney for the grandfather of a toddler who fell to her death on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship tells CBS News that prosecutors are offering a plea deal. Sam Anello was surrounded by reporters as he left a Puerto Rico courtroom Tuesday. He’s charged with negligent homicide in the July death of his granddaughter, 18-month-old Chloe Wiegand. Russian spy ship spotted off U.S. coast, accused of erratic movements

The U.S. is monitoring a Russian spy ship that the Coast Guard says has been sailing unsafely off the East Coast. It was spotted sailing toward American military bases in Florida earlier this week. CBS News has confirmed the ship was seen again Tuesday off the Bahamas and is believed to be headed away from the U.S. Source
