Trump banned from Twitter; faces possible 2nd impeachment
Citing a risk of “further incitement of violence,” Twitter permanently banned President Trump from its services on Friday. Trump also faces a possible second impeachment following the assault on the Capitol from his supporters. Paula Reid has more. Source
Pence yet to speak to Trump in days following attack on Capitol
Sources tell CBS News that Vice President Mike Pence has not spoken to President Trump since the attack on the Capitol building. Pence has also not yet responded to Democrats’ calls to invoke the 25th amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office. Twitter has permanently suspended President Trump’s personal account. The social media giant cited the risk of further incitement of violence as the reason behind its decision. The move follows Wednesday’s deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol. The president has been accused of setting the violence in motion with tweets and his speech encouraging his supporters to march to the Capitol. Biden says “domestic terrorists” should be prosecuted
President-elect Joe Biden is pushing forward in an effort to fill his Cabinet ahead of Inauguration Day. The incoming president has asked the Senate to quickly approve his nominees so he can hit the ground running. His latest nominations took place just one day after the U.S. Capitol was stormed by pro-Trump rioters. The nominees include Department of Justice veteran Merrick Garland for attorney general. Harry Litman, former U.S. Attorney and host of the “Talking Feds” podcast, joins CBSN to discuss the pick and what it means for the investigation into the assault on the Capitol building. Source
