Only a matter of time: The disaster awaiting Pacific Northwest

Five years ago a 9.0 mag earthquake and tsunami devastated eastern Japan in 2011, and scientists say it’s a question of when, not If, it happens here in the Pacific Northwest; research shows the region is overdue for a major quake. To prepare for a devastating natural disaster, officials are drawing up evacuation plans and greenlighting seismic upgrades. Don Dahler has a report on the efforts some communities are making. Some of the world’s best ukuleles handcrafted in U.K.

Adapted from an old Portuguese design, ukeleles have been Hawaii’s signature musical instrument since the late 19th century. Their popularity spread around the world during the Jazz Age of the 1920s, but to most of us, their true home is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean — which is why you may be surprised to learn where some of the world’s best ukuleles are made. Saturday Sessions: Seratones perform “Chandelier”

Four natives of Shreveport, Louisiana, formed the band, Seratones, two years ago behind the powerful gospel-trained vocals of lead singer A.J. Haynes. In their national television debut, the Seratones perform “Chandelier” from their debut album, “Get Gone,” releasing May 6. Source

The Dish: New England Chef Matt Jennings

Last year Matt Jennings opened Townsman in Boston where he serves what he calls “modern farmhouse cuisine.” He’s received four James Beard Award nominations for the Best Chef: Northeast. Food and Wine declared him one of “40 Big Food Thinkers 40 and Under,” and Esquire just named Townsman one of the best new restaurants in the country. Jennings joins “CBS This Morning: Saturday” to share his journey. Source
