Carrie Underwood dominated last night’s “CMT Music Awards”. “Something In The Water” won Video of the Year and Best Female Video. And she shared Collaborative Video of the Year with Miranda Lambert for “Somethin’ Bad”.
She was even all over the opening monologue when cohosts Erin Andrews and Brittany Snow did a running gag about Erin’s obsession with her. She also killed it on the red carpet some three months after having a baby. (The proof is in the pic.)
The big musical opening featured LADY ANTEBELLUM and electronic dance music artist ZEDD. They did a mashup of Lady A’s “Long Stretch of Love” and Zedd’s “Beautiful Now”. The result? A lot of energy, which isn’t a bad way to start a show.
By the way, I didn’t expect much from Erin and Brittany, but they won me over. The chemistry was there and Brittany definitely has comedy chops. They did a pretty funny video where instead of an Uber car they took a “Guuber” . . . because it’s Nashville.
It featured Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alan Jackson, Steven Tyler, Tom Arnold, Justin Bieber, James Corden, and Rick Springfield. (Check it out here.)

The CMTs are more about performances than awards, and several really stood out. It’s been 10 years since Reba performed on the CMTs and she rocked her song “Going Out Like That”.
Does the Zac Brown Band ever disappoint? No. They performed “Homegrown” and it was solid.
You know how Eric Church usually tears the room apart? Not this year. Instead, he did one better with a stripped-down performance of “Like A Wrecking Ball”.
Hands down the most entertaining performance of the night was Jake Owen who was lowered to the stage on an inflatable mattress to perform “Real Life”. At first it looked gimmicky but I was quickly swept away. It was just plain fun.

Does every awards show have at least one uncomfortable moment? Kellie Pickler and Billy Ray Cyrus completely bombed trying to be funny while pimping their reality shows. I swear every single moment of the bit fell flat.
One last note: No disrespect to Carrie, but I believe Sierks Bently got robbed by not winning Video of Year for “Drunk On a Plane”. (You can check out the rest of last night’s performances on CMT.com.)
