According to an annual survey by the National Retail Federation, we’ll spend an average of $173 on Mother’s Day this year . . . that’s up about $10 from last year. And it’s the most since they started doing the survey 12 years ago.
63% are planning to buy something for their mom or stepmom . . . 23% will buy something for their wife . . . 10% will buy something for their daughter . . . 9% will go shopping for their sister . . . and 7% will get something for their grandmother.
Here are the top seven things we plan to buy . . .
1. 80% will buy greeting cards, and spend an average of $8 on them.
2. 67% will buy flowers, and spend an average of $29.
3. 54% will go out for dinner, spending an average of $58.
4. 44% will buy at least one gift card. The average is just over $40.
5. 36% will buy clothing, and spend an average of $45.
6. 34% plan to buy jewelry, and spend an average of $103.
7. 21% will pay for a spa day or a massage, at an average of $59.
